Bitcoin Futures (BTC) on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME)

Product Details

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) launched Bitcoin future contracts on the 17th December 2017. Launch was designed to facilitate investors appetite to hedge Bitcoin risk exposure within a regulated environment. The BTC futures contract has the following characteristics defined by the CME:

  • Product code: BTC
  • Unit contract size: 5 BTC
  • Price quotation: USD per BTC
  • The CME futures contract BTC is priced off the CME Bitcoin Reference Rate. This is an index that references pricing data from cryptocurrency exchanges, made up of Bitstamp, GDAX, itBit and Kraken
  • Exposure to Bitcoin without the need of a digital wallet
  • Trading Times: Sunday – Friday 6:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CT) with a 60-minute break each day beginning at 5:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. CT)
