One of the oldest brokerages in Japan, Monex Group, is looking to add crypto currencies to its product line. In 2018, Monex group had acquired Coincheck, a crypto currency exchange that had been hacked with reported losses of up to $500M. With stiff competition in the Japanese market, Yuko Seimei, the president of Monex, believes that adding crypto currencies will help the company regain market share. Reported by Bloomberg, Yuko said;
We’ve fallen a little behind, we can’t deny that…..if we keep doing things the way we have, we may not be able to close the gap
Yuko Seimei, President of Monex
Coincheck has obtained an exchange licence in January 2019 from the Financial Services Agency (FSA).
